What Data We Collect

WordSprout collects the following information, provided by the parent or guardian:

• Child profile information: First name and birthdate (used to calculate developmental age)
• Vocabulary words: Words entered by the parent/guardian, including language, category, and date added
• Account information: Email address (when using optional cloud sync)

How Data Is Stored

• Locally: All data is stored on your device using a local database. The app works fully offline.
• Cloud sync (optional): If you create an account and enable sync, data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) to enable sharing between family members and devices. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

COPPA Compliance

WordSprout is designed for parents and guardians to track their children's vocabulary development. The app is not directed at children and is not intended to be used by children under 13. Only a parent or legal guardian should create an account and enter data.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. All data is entered and managed by the parent/guardian.

Parental Verification

By creating an account and entering data into WordSprout, the parent or legal guardian provides verifiable parental consent for the limited child profile data stored (first name and birthdate only). No child-identifying information is collected beyond what the parent voluntarily provides.

Data Collected About Children

The only data stored about a child is:

• First name — used as a display label within the family
• Birthdate — used solely to calculate developmental age milestones
• Vocabulary words — entered by the parent, associated with the child's profile

Data Retention and Deletion

Child profile data and vocabulary entries are retained only as long as the parent maintains an active account. Parents can delete individual children, individual words, or all family data at any time through the app's Settings screen. Upon deletion, data is removed from both the device and cloud storage (if sync is enabled). There is no minimum retention period.

Third-Party Services and Children's Data

The following third-party services may process data related to children's profiles:

• Google Firebase Firestore: Stores child profile data (name, birthdate) and vocabulary entries when cloud sync is enabled. Firebase is covered by Google's data processing terms.
• Google Firebase Authentication: Authenticates the parent's account only. No child data is passed to Firebase Auth.
• Google ML Kit (on-device): Provides translation suggestions entirely on-device. No data is transmitted to external servers.

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time:

1. Open Settings in the app
2. Tap "Delete All My Data"
3. Confirm the deletion

This removes all local data from your device and all cloud data associated with your family. You can also email us to request data deletion.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transfer any personal data to third parties. Firebase is used solely for data storage and authentication.
